Good weather and the recession keeps British holidaymakers at home for 2009

Almost a third of British holidaymakers will be staying in the UK this summer, according to a survey conducted by Travelodge. The number of people choosing to travel abroad has fallen from 33% in 2008 to 27% in 2009. Meanwhile 32% are opting to holiday at UK destinations instead of jumping on a plane, and it might not be such a bad idea. With the recession in full swing people are finding themselves with less money to spare on luxuries like family holidays and are realising that there is an easier, cheaper alternative right on their doorstep.

Travelling abroad, especially with a whole family in tow, is as stressful as it is costly and it seems the time has come for a more aware public to make a few changes. With the met office predicting that we’re finally going to get that gloriously hot summer the UK is so long overdue, it seems as if 2009 is going to be the year of the ‘staycation’. The South West coast and other seaside destinations are the most popular choice as they offer a large selection of entertainment and activities for tourists of all ages.

And UK holidays don’t have to be about quaint little country cottages and tea, destinations like TLH Leisure Resort in Torquay offer a huge range of entertainment, activities and sports for people of all ages from arcade games and swimming to specialist golf or bowls holidays. The prices are affordable and there are some great package deals for families, with the option of supervised activities for kids and teens when parents need a bit of time to themselves. With a variety of family entertainment in the evenings and the ability to tailor your holiday to your interests from swimming to relaxing in the spa to dancing, holidays in the UK can be as much fun as going abroad, at half the cost.
