Shopping Safe, Avoid Toy Recalls

When you shop for toys, it is important to make sure that you know which toys are safe to purchase for your children and which ones are dangerous. Some toys have been recalled but the stores continue to sell them. If you are not up to date with the toy recall list, then you could buy some good looking toys that your kids will love to play with but they might turn out to contain some harmful materials. You need to be careful when purchasing toddlers toys or toys for babies in particular because a small amount of dangerous substance present in toys can harm them.

It is sad that dangerous toys continue to be sold in stores everywhere, despite new laws that are put in place to protect children from hazardous toys. Toy safety is a very important issue that parents cannot ignore. Although most of the toys on store shelves are safe, there continues to be toys that are too dangerous for small children. As a result, parents and people taking care of kids need to exercise care in order to prevent toy-related deaths and injuries. With more tests and more scientific discoveries, the scope of unsafe toys has been widened to include toys that were thought to be safe such as those labeled as phthalate-free. It is true that even some products labeled phthalate-free may contain the dangerous chemical.

Although toy manufacturers should act swiftly to recall unsafe products and also provide parents all the information they need so that they can purchase safe toys for their children, some of them care more about protecting their bottom lines. You will no doubt have heard of many toy recalls in the news but there are a lot more toy recalls that do not make it to the news. Therefore, parents may not be aware that they are unsafe to use or buy. The government agency that is supposed to keep toys safe called The Consumer Product Safety Commission have published alerts and information on toy safety but there are still lots of manufacturers that are not doing anything and still sell toys laden with toxic materials. The Consumer Product Safety Commission cannot do much about existing toys that are already out on the shelves.

If you suspect you have a hazardous toy or any unsafe product, you need report the incident to the CPSC by calling a toll-free Consumer Hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 800-638-8270).
