Good weather and the recession keeps British holidaymakers at home for 2009

Almost a third of British holidaymakers will be staying in the UK this summer, according to a survey conducted by Travelodge. The number of people choosing to travel abroad has fallen from 33% in 2008 to 27% in 2009. Meanwhile 32% are opting to holiday at UK destinations instead of jumping on a plane, and it might not be such a bad idea. With the recession in full swing people are finding themselves with less money to spare on luxuries like family holidays and are realising that there is an easier, cheaper alternative right on their doorstep.

Travelling abroad, especially with a whole family in tow, is as stressful as it is costly and it seems the time has come for a more aware public to make a few changes. With the met office predicting that we’re finally going to get that gloriously hot summer the UK is so long overdue, it seems as if 2009 is going to be the year of the ‘staycation’. The South West coast and other seaside destinations are the most popular choice as they offer a large selection of entertainment and activities for tourists of all ages.

And UK holidays don’t have to be about quaint little country cottages and tea, destinations like TLH Leisure Resort in Torquay offer a huge range of entertainment, activities and sports for people of all ages from arcade games and swimming to specialist golf or bowls holidays. The prices are affordable and there are some great package deals for families, with the option of supervised activities for kids and teens when parents need a bit of time to themselves. With a variety of family entertainment in the evenings and the ability to tailor your holiday to your interests from swimming to relaxing in the spa to dancing, holidays in the UK can be as much fun as going abroad, at half the cost.

Dance is the next big thing, why not try a dancing holiday?

For most people, dancing wouldn’t be the first thing they’d think of when asked what they like to do on holiday. Most people go on holiday to get away for a bit and relax by the pool, not to wear themselves out learning new dance moves. But dancing holidays are increasingly popular, and are a great opportunity to do something a bit different, get a good workout and really enjoy yourself while you’re at it.

Not so long ago a lot of people would never have imagined that they might sign up for dance lessons, but things are beginning to change and dance of all types is becoming more and more popular. This is probably in no small part thanks to ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, one of the most widely watched shows on television over the last few years with thousands of viewers tuning in every week. Watching celebrities start with no more dancing skills than you or I become experts in such a short time has inspired people to take on the challenge themselves and demand for dance lessons has risen significantly.

Learning something new like dancing can also be a great activity for family holidays, with kids becoming more enthusiastic about dance after the high profile success of dance groups like ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ winners Diversity and finalists Flawless. TV shows like these have helped to bring dance back into popular culture, so as a fun family activity it will be great fun for everyone, whatever their age.

Another great thing about specialist activity breaks like dancing holidays is that most of the time they don’t cost too much and they save time and money on travel costs as you don’t have to fly or travel abroad. UK leisure resorts like TLH in Torquay offer a range of great deals on their holiday packages including special dancing, golf and bowls holidays as well as loads of family entertainments, games and activities.

The Mystic City: Vienna

If you are looking for the bold and the elegant rooms, then Vienna is the place to go. This city is quite unique; it can offer both modern entertainment and medieval museums, healthy restaurants and light cathedrals. One of the biggest museums in the world is The Belleview, and it is located right here in Vienna The palace was an outside city location for the prince, a summer place if you wish. But we can hardly name this gracious palace a summer house, because it has so many rooms we can’t even count. Inside the palace, decorating it’s many room are many art works that constitute today’s museum. The superior galleries present a nice and valuable selection of international and Austrian art, while the inferior galleries expose art from medieval and baroque times.

Near the Belleview we can locate the most expensive and most luxurious hotel accommodations in the world. Here in Vienna you can find a perfect blend of odd modern arts and luxurious traditional attractions. A true king room can be booked in these hotels, but these rooms are very expensive, as you would expect.

Since we are talking about Vienna Palaces, let’s not forget the Imperial Palace. This is the biggest Palace in Vienna, which used to serve as a location for country rulers. So much history enclosed within his ruined walls, so many emperors that enhanced it, a very unforgettable place. Unfortunately, the medieval palace was not well preserved over time, and because of erosion and aging, most of it is lost now. The Government tries hard to reproduce what used to be a strong and resistant building using several loaders, construction machines with skid steer auger attachment for drilling unstable soil and replacing it with less humid dirt, so that the construction would resist for ages to come.

But we still have the Imperial Chapel, where a nice Choir of young people can be audited every Sunday. Because the regal family was extremely passionate for art and all its components, we can find numerous collections that are exposed for the wide public in secured museums.

If we don’t want to spend a fortune, we will have to find a hotel accommodation that is located a bit farther away from the Palaces. We can very well choose less expensive hotels that are situated near major hypermarkets or common transport stations, so we can make moving around the wide city easier. Rooms for every needs are to be found at very low prices in the hotel that are not located in major Vienna regions. Because people that book into these hotel will be traveling a lot to get o visit the city, they don’t always offer three meals a day, so choose the location wisely.
